CSR
The overall objective is to sustain “Profit” and continue to enhance value for the shareholders while living the shared value to balance operational agenda with the socio-environmental stewardship of “People and Planet”
In line with the above, the Group’s sustainability framework classifies the activities into four pillars of sustainability namely “Productivity and Innovations”, “Care for Environment”, “Investor in People” and “Returning to Community”. This framework has been intertwined into our business model in a responsible and sustainable manner.
Statement on Environment
On the environmental aspect, the Group’s pillar of sustainability – “Care for Environment” focuses on specific and relevant environment related initiatives which promote environmental protection, site conservation and biodiversity enhancement. Pursuit of best management practices is an important cornerstone in resource stewardship over soil, water, air and waste management in the plantation landscape.
Statement on Workplace
The Group’s focus on Workplace is embedded in its sustainability pillar of “Investor in People”. This cornerstone puts the spotlight on the Group’s human assets, and is directed towards building an esprit de corps of CMJ Breweries family.
People are the key assets and building blocks to achieve sustainable business development. The Group is committed in providing a long-term employment with a decent working and living environment along with wide opportunities for personal and career development. The Group adheres to the national minimum wage standards.
Report on Safe Workplace
Safety and health are given priority and the Company is committed to continue and constantly raise health and safety awareness. Employees are provided with PPE and periodical medical surveillance is being carried.
All employees have also been given access to quality healthcare, either at the clinics operated within the Group or at government and privately operated medical establishments. Monthly medical surveillance and basic health screening are conducted for employees by both the in-house medical staff and the visiting medical officers.
Report on Nurturing People Asset
The Group continues to focus on developing and training local talent by offering a list of structured training and retraining programmes. Apart from technical and job based training, management also provides comprehensive soft skills training to enhance the management skills and competency levels of its staff. The Group prioritises effective talent management and leadership development as part of its succession planning strategy.
Moving forward, the Group shall address the generational shift in operations by empowering the younger employees in the Gen-X category with enhanced job scope and responsibilities in the operations while their ‘baby-boomer’ seniors continue to provide guidance by acting as their mentors. The mentorship process is expected to help in preparing the Gen-X employees to be better equipped for higher level positions in the Group.
Statement on Community
Another important aspect covering people relates to the Group’s sustainability pillar of “Returning to Community”. This covers the social outreach initiatives and centers on sharing the prosperity of the organisation with targeted groups in the community. In recognising the shared value between our business and the surrounding community, key initiatives carried out include promotion of sports excellence, empowering women, medical outreach and pursuit of charitable volunteerism endeavours.
The Group also participated in job placement programmes organised by local government agencies. In the reporting year, we invited local young people to undergo intensive training courses as part of the career development programme for local talent.
